Egg Donor Compensation
An egg donor can make it possible for some to achieve their dream of becoming parents. To thank donors for their contributions and for their various expenses, agencies provide donors with egg donation compensation.
Usually women are compensated around $6000 for their first donation BUT the actual amount an individual donor will receive may depend upon a variety of factors and is up to the individual donor to decide what compensation meets her needs:
- Age
- Physical/mental health and medical history
- Ethnic background
- Location
- Travel requirements
- Previous experience as an egg donor
Expenses Paid by Intended Parents Directly to You
Certain other expenses will be paid directly to you (or to a non-agency professional working on your behalf, such as a doctor or attorney).
The following are examples of such expenses:
- Additional medical costs (not related to initial screening)
-Â Genetic testing, medications, health monitoring
-Â Genetic counseling (as needed) - Fees for review of donor agreement by an independent attorney
- Any additional agreed-upon support
When Will I Receive Payment?
The timing of payment may also vary by agency, but typically you will receive your compensation after the egg retrieval procedure.
Any other agreement for financial compensation that you have with the intended parents will be paid based on the terms of that agreement, not on the agency’s schedule.
Compensation May Vary from State to State
Geographic location does have some effect on compensation. The more egg donation agencies in an area, the more the competition drives up compensation. This is seen mostly in coastal regions like California and the Northeast.
Starting compensation for egg donors in these areas may be higher but YOU will always decide what is the best compensation package for you.

Egg Donor Requirements:
- Between the ages of 20 - 29
- Desire to help someone create a family
- Minimum of one year of verifiable secondary education
- Non-smoker, social drinker only, no illegal drugs
- Height and weight proportional
- Psychologically and physically healthy with a healthy family history
- No current or previous substance abuse
- Have both ovaries
- No contraceptive implants or hormonal IUD’s
- No family history of genetic disorders that can be inherited such as Cystic Fibrosis
- No use of psychoactive drugs such as those used for depression or ADD/ADHD
- Able to take the necessary time off from work and school to attend monitoring appointments, informational sessions and the actual egg retrieval. This process takes about 6-10 weeks and involves about 6-8 clinic visits spread out over that period of time.
