Starting the Egg Donation Process

If you are considering egg donation, then you may be wondering about the steps involved in the process.

At The Donor Solution, we are here to guide you through each aspect of choosing an egg donor, and what you can expect as you move forward.

We believe the best possible experience starts with informed and educated patients.

Step 1 - Reasons for Seeking an Egg Donor

There are many reasons intended parents may seek an egg donor. Some intended parents might be struggling with infertility, while others may be single parent or LGBT families. These are just a few reasons for considering egg donation. In the case of an infertility diagnosis, patients are tested to determine the cause of infertility. If there are poor quality ovaries or eggs, multiple failed IVF cycles, non-functional reproductive organs, early menopause or a hereditary genetic disorder, egg donation can help intended parents experience the joys of pregnancy.

Step 2 - Choosing the Right Egg Donor Agency

Once you have decided egg donation is an option you would like to move forward with, the next step is finding the right egg donor agency. Choosing an egg donor agency and program requires research. The agency you choose has important implications on the success of your experience. The Donor Solution is FDA and ASRM compliant, donors are personally interviewed and screened with background checks, transcript and SAT/ACT scores checked and AMh fertility testing where applicable is completed.  We have an extensive database of donors of vetted donors and our agency is owned and operated by a licensed healthcare professional. View our frequently asked questions for tips on how to find the best egg donor agency.

Step 3 - The Initial Consultations

Now, that you have chosen an egg donor agency, it's time for an initial consultation with The Donor Solution. During this consultation, we will discuss any donors that you have found through our database. We will provide you detailed information about the donors, photos, and discuss the costs of egg donation.

Step 4 - Synchronizing Cycles

When an egg donor has been selected, our team at The Donor Solution will contact your infertility clinic and physician. During this time, the egg donor will receive specific medical instructions regarding cycling and administering hormone treatments. This will allow for the egg donor and the surrogate to sync cycles for maximal viability of the eggs.

Step 5 - Egg & Sperm Retrieval

Now that the cycles of the donor and recipient are aligned, a minimally invasive egg retrieval procedure is performed to remove the donor’s eggs. That same day the male partner or sperm donor will provide a semen specimen for fertilization.

Step 6 - In Vitro Fertilization

After the eggs and sperm have been retrieved, your reproductive endocrinologist will start the in vitro fertilization (IVF) process. IVF is the process of fertilization by manually combining an egg and sperm in a laboratory dish. When the IVF procedure is successful, the process is combined with a procedure known as embryo transfer, which involves physically placing the embryo in the uterus.

Step 7 - Pregnancy Test

Approximately two weeks after the embryo transfer, a pregnancy test is administered. Hopefully, the IVF treatment was a success and you will be expecting a new addition to your family!

Selecting an Egg Donor

Liquid error: Nil location provided. Can't build URI.

When choosing an egg donor, there are multiple factors to take into consideration.

At The Donor Solution, we help guide you through all of your options so that you can make the most informed decision, and find the egg donor that is ideal for you.

Some of the most important factors that many intended parents take into consideration include:

  • Physical Appearance - for many individuals, physical appearance plays a large role in the selection of an egg donor. At The Donor Solution, we have photos of the egg donors from childhood through current adulthood to help you identify the key characteristics that are important to you.
  • Medical History - when reviewing donor profiles it is crucial to evaluate their medical history carefully. Medical history can be especially important when considering specific genetic diseases. Some egg donors may be more compatible than others in terms of genetic predispositions. Intended parents also need to consider how the donor’s medical history combines with your family’s history.
  • Location - the location of an egg donor can also be an important aspect for consideration. Some intended parents prefer that the donor is closer in the vicinity to making cycling and other appointments less cumbersome with travel.
  • The personality of Egg Donor - egg donors each creates a profile that allows you to learn more about each donor. You can learn information about a college major, athletics, artistic qualities, and much more.
  • Managing the Egg Donor Process - Emotions can run high during this process and that is completely understandable. Struggling with infertility is a challenging experience and the donor selection process can be stressful. At The Donor Solution, our team is highly trained, compassionate and here to help you through the process. We’re here to help!
